SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's basketball begins a stretch of three of four on the road Thursday when it travels to BYU. Tipoff from Marriott Center is set for 9 p.m. Mountain.
The Broncos (8-16, 5-7) dropped a pair of home games last week, falling to Pacific on Thursday and San Francisco on Saturday.
The Cougars (18-7, 7-5) are coming off a pair of road losses, getting knocked off by Loyola Marymount on Thursday and Gonzaga two days later.
Santa Clara (tied for sixth) is two games back of BYU (tied for third) in the West Coast Conference standings.
• Frankie Ferrari (19) and Jordan Ratinho (17) combined for 36 points and San Francisco held off a second-half rally from Santa Clara to claim a 70-59 win. After trailing by as many as 14 early in the second half, the Broncos made multiple rallies, but were never able to forge ahead. Junior guard KJ Feagin had his first-career double-double with 15 points (all in the second half) and a career-high 10 assists.
• Miles Reynolds posted a career-high tying 23 points and Lafayette Dorsey came off the bench to score 14 for Pacific in its 63-45 win over Santa Clara. Feagin scored 21 points and senior guard/forward Henry Caruso added 10 for the Broncos who were held to 32 percent from the floor and were out-rebounded 40-26.
• Feagin ranks fourth in the WCC in scoring (17.5 ppg) and eighth in assists (4.0 pg). Caruso is second on the team in scoring (12.2 ppg) and first with 6.7 rebounds per game (No. 7 in the league). Freshman forward Josip Vrankic is third on the team in scoring (10.6 ppg) and second in rebounding (5.0 pg). Junior guard Matt Hauser, who has missed the last three games with a foot injury, is averaging 9.8 ppg and ranks fourth in the WCC in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2-to-1). Feagin (2.3) and Hauser (2.0) rank fifth and ninth, respectively, in the WCC in 3-pointers per game.
• Caruso is one of only two players in the WCC to rank in the top 20 in scoring (16th), and top 10 in rebounds, steals (sixth - 1.3 pg) and FT percentage (tied for ninth - 80.1). Guard Elijah Bryant of BYU is second in scoring (17.9 ppg), eighth in rebounding (6.2 pg), tied for ninth in steals (1.2 pg) and first in FT percentage (89.3).

YEAR TWO UNDER SENDEK
The Broncos are in their 111th year of existence, including second under Herb Sendek, who has been successful in each of his three previous head-coaching stops. With a resume that includes 18 postseason appearances and three conference coach of the year awards, Sendek, was one of the three youngest coaches with 400 or more career victories He is in his 24th season as a collegiate head coach with stops at Arizona State, North Carolina State and Miami (Ohio).
QUICK HITS
• Santa Clara has won three of its last four on the road after dropping its first five of the season away from Leavey Center.
• The Broncos have generally held on to the ball, registering just 11.4 turnovers per game and possessing a +1.9 turnover margin (first in the WCC).
• Santa Clara has struggled to rebound while BYU is third in the WCC. The Broncos are -5.9 in rebounding per game (10th in WCC) and the Cougars are +2.6. BYU does most of its damage on the defensive glass (second in WCC at 25.8 pg).
• Santa Clara and BYU are sixth and seventh, respectively, in 3-pointers per game. The Broncos average 8.0 per game and the Cougars 6.8.
• In guard Elijah Bryant and forward Yoeni Childs, BYU possesses two of the most productive players in the WCC. They are the highest scoring duo in the league: Bryant - 17.9 ppg; Childs 17.5 (third in the WCC). Childs ranks second in the conference in rebounding (8.8 pg).
THE BYU SERIES
The series began in 1951 and BYU leads 29-6. The Cougars had their 14-game winning streak in the series snapped last season when the Broncos came away with a 76-68 victory in Santa Clara (Jan. 26). Jared Brownridge scored a game-high 25 points and Nate Kratch and KJ Feagin tallied 16 each for the Broncos who nailed 14 3-pointers and held the Cougars to just three. BYU owns a 14-1 series lead joining the WCC for the 2011-12 season. Prior to last year, the last victory for Broncos was a 66-64 victory in Provo, Utah, on Dec. 2, 1972, though the teams only met once (Dec. 30, 1986 in the Cable Car Classic) in a 38-year span.
TRENDS
Emmanuel Ndumanya has posted the two highest point totals of his career in the last four games (career-high 15 vs. San Diego, Jan. 25; 13 vs. Pepperdine, Jan. 27). He has shot 23 of 40 from the floor (57.5 percent) in the last nine ... Santa Clara has posted 26 of its 52 blocks in the last six games, including a season-best six vs. Pacific (Feb. 1) ... KJ Feagin has reached double figures in 20 of the team's 23 games (nine points vs. Gonzaga, Dec. 30; nine points vs. BYU, Jan. 13; nine points vs. San Diego, Jan. 25) ... Feagin has nine of the team's 15 20-point scoring games this year ... a career 54 percent free-throw shooter, Ndumanya has made 25 of his last 33 from the line (75.8 percent) ... Henry Caruso has been off the floor for only six minutes in the last five games. He and Kai Healy played all 40 minutes in back-to-back games (San Diego, Jan. 25; Pepperdine, Jan. 27).
