Men’s Basketball Adds Transfer Forward to Recruiting Class

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Forward DJ Mitchell will join the Santa Clara men's basketball team for 2018-19.

Mitchell played the last two seasons at Wake Forest where he saw action in 30 games during 2017-18.

A 6-foot-8 product of Clovis, California, Mitchell averaged 2.9 points and 2.2 rebounds in 12 minutes per game last season. He connected on 42.9 percent behind the 3-point line.

Mitchell will have two years of eligibility after sitting out 2018-19.

"We are thrilled to welcome DJ Mitchell to our Santa Clara family," head coach Herb Sendek said. "DJ is a skilled, versatile player with the ability to impact winning on both ends of the floor in a multitude of ways. His shooting range and defensive commitment certainly distinguish him in a special way. Additionally, we will expect DJ to be an important example and voice of leadership."

In addition to being a three-time all-conference performer at Buchanan High School, Mitchell was also an all-state volleyball choice.

Mitchell is the second addition this spring to the recruiting class as Zeke Richards, a 6-foot-11 forward, signed a national letter of intent early this month.

That duo will join Juan Ducasse (Montevideo, Uruguay), Keshawn Justice (Madison, Wisc.) and Trey Wertz (Charlotte, N.C.) who signed in the fall.
