ATLANTA – Santa Clara men's basketball alum Lloyd Pierce, a member some of the most successful teams in program history, has been named the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Pierce spent the last five years as an assistant with the Philadelphia 76ers and also has pro stops as an assistant in Memphis (2011-13), Golden State (2010-11), and Cleveland (2007-10). From 2003-07 he was an assistant at Santa Clara.

During his time on the Mission campus as a player, Pierce helped lead the Broncos to the NCAA Tournament twice (1995 and 1996) and played with future two-time NBA MVP and hall of famer Steve Nash.
