Men’s Basketball Rounds Out Coaching Staff

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's basketball has completed its staff with the hiring of Ryan Madry as an assistant coach.

A Bay Area native, Madry (m-AE-dree) spent 2017-18 as an assistant coach at Seattle University after a six-year stint at UC Santa Barbara.

"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Ryan Madry, his wife, Kate, and their young daughter, Skylar, to our Santa Clara University Family," head coach Herb Sendek said. "Coach Madry has quickly distinguished himself and forged an outstanding reputation as a coach and recruiter. He will, no doubt, add great value to all aspects of our program. I most certainly look forward to working together with Coach Madry."

Last season, Seattle finished 20-14 and reached the Western Athletic Conference semifinals en route to a spot in the College Basketball Invitational Tournament. The win total marked a program high since returning to Division I status in 2008-09.

During his time at UC Santa Barbara, the program won 19-plus games in four seasons with three of those concluding with a postseason trip.

"I am excited to be a part of the Santa Clara basketball program," Madry said. "This University has so much to offer its student-athletes both academically and athletically. I feel fortunate for the opportunity to work for Coach Sendek whose success speaks for itself. I am looking forward to helping him build here at Santa Clara."

Mabry began a stretch of four straight years working in the Bay Area in 2006-07 when he served as assistant coach at West Valley College in Saratoga. The following season he was elevated to head coach.

He spent two years (2008-10) as the video coordinator at San Francisco before serving as the director of basketball operations at Cal State Fullerton in 2010-11.

Madry played two seasons at West Valley College before concluding his collegiate career at the University of West Georgia, where he served as co-captain as a senior in 2004-05. He earned his bachelor's degree in sports management from West Georgia in 2006.

Madry's first coaching experience came in 2005-06 with West Georgia as a graduate assistant.

He hails from Oakland where he played at Bishop O'Dowd High School.

Madry replaces Justin Gainey who spent last season on Sendek's staff.
