2018-19 Men's Basketball Schedule | Season Tickets
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Tipoff times have been set for nonconference home games and one West Coast Conference contest on the 2018-19 Santa Clara men's basketball schedule.
Seven of the team's nine nonconference home games will start at 7 p.m., beginning with the season opener on Nov. 9 against Prairie View A&M.
The second game of the season, a home matchup against UC Irvine in preliminary-round action in the Vancouver Showcase, will also tip off at 7 p.m.
There will be two afternoon games at Leavey Center - the Dec. 1 tilt against Northern Arizona (4 p.m.) and Dec. 9 matchup against Sonoma State (2 p.m.).
The Broncos, led by third-year head coach Herb Sendek, will play 14 nonconference games, including four against Pac-12 Conference programs.
They face USC at home on Dec. 18 after playing Washington (Nov. 18) in the Vancouver Showcase and Cal (Nov. 26) on the road. Santa Clara finishes nonconference play with a road game against Washington State (Dec. 29).
Cal and Washington State will play in Leavey Center during the 2019-20 season.
The Broncos play a fifth game (Texas A&M or Minnesota) against a Power Five Conference team in the finale of the Vancouver Showcase on Nov. 20.
Times for West Coast Conference games will be announced in the coming weeks, but the league office and ESPN unveiled nationally-televised contests.
The Broncos will play Saint Mary's on Feb. 14 in Leavey Center with that game beginning at 8 p.m. and airing on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.
TICKETS
The season-ticket renewal process continues through Wednesday, Sept. 12. Deposits ($50 per seat) are being accepted for new accounts and the seat-selection procedure for those individuals is from Sept. 13-16. NONCONFERENCE SCHEDULE NOTES
• The Broncos are facing five Power Five Conference teams in the same season for the first time since 1995-96 when they met seven - UCLA, Michigan State, Oregon State, Penn State, Georgia Tech, Maryland (NCAAs) and Kansas (NCAAs).
• Four Pac-12 schools are on the schedule for the first time since 1993-94 (then the Pac-10) when Santa Clara faced Cal (twice), Stanford, Oregon and Arizona. The Broncos are meeting Cal for the first time since 2006-07 and Washington is on the schedule for the first time since 2002-03. Santa Clara played Washington State in 2016-17 and USC last season.
• Four teams – San José State, Northern Arizona, USC and Idaho – were on the 2017-18 Santa Clara schedule. Santa Clara and San José State have met 35 of the last 36 years, including a stretch of 23 straight seasons.
• Outside of San José State (110 meetings), Cal (72 meetings), and USC (31 meetings), the Broncos have faced the other 11 nonconference opponents a total of 29 or 30 times, depending on the second opponent (Texas A&M or Minnesota) at the Vancouver Showcase. Santa Clara has played Minnesota three times and Texas A&M twice.
• Santa Clara has never faced Prairie View A&M, Jackson State nor Sonoma State.
• The stretch of seven in a row at home from Nov. 29 through Dec. 21 is the longest for the Broncos since eight in a row in 2009-10.
TEAM NOTES
• The Broncos return four rotational players from last season: guards KJ Feagin and Matt Hauser, and forwards Henrik Jadersten and Josip Vrankic. Feagin is a two-time All-WCC selection who averaged 17.5 points per game (fifth in the league) and 4.0 assists pg (ninth in the league) in 2017-18. Hauser is a two-year starter who possesses a 2.41-to-1 career assist-to-turnover ratio. Jadersten has appeared in 84 career games and Vrankic was one of the more productive freshmen in the WCC during 2017-18, ranking third on the team in both scoring (10.4 ppg) and rebounding (4.6 pg).
• Sophomore guard Tahj Eaddy is eligible this season after sitting out 2017-18. He transferred from Southeast Missouri last summer.
• There are eight additions to the 2018-19 squad, including five true freshmen in Guglielmo [Willie] Caruso (Naples, Italy), Juan Ducasse (Montevideo, Uruguay), Keshawn Justice (Madison, Wisconsin), Zeke Richards (Oak Park, California) and Trey Wertz (Charlotte, North Carolina). Fallou Ndoye, DJ Mitchell and Josh Martin are transfers. Ndoye (CSU Bakersfield) and Martin (Cal Poly) are graduate transfers with immediate eligibility. Mitchell played the last two seasons at Wake Forest and will sit out 2018-19.
• The Broncos have two new assistant coaches with Scott Garson and Ryan Madry joining the staff this spring. Garson spent the last five seasons as head coach at College of Idaho. Madry was at Seattle last season after six years at UC Santa Barbara.
