Men's Basketball Faces Northern Arizona Saturday Afternoon

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - After opening its season-long seven-game homestand with an 81-70 win over Jackson State, Santa Clara men's basketball faces Northern Arizona on Saturday.

Tipoff between the Broncos and Lumberjacks (2-3) is set for 4 p.m. in Leavey Center.

Freshman guard Trey Wertz posted a career-high 33 points for the Broncos (2-5) who shot a season-best 49 percent from the floor and went 25 of 32 from the free-throw line to Thursday's victory.

Two days after securing its first win of the season, the Broncos were unable to make it two in a row on Monday. A sluggish first half was too much to overcome for Santa Clara which lost to California, 78-66. The Broncos got their most complete performance of the season in Saturday's 71-63 win at San Jose State. Tahj Eaddy (23), Josip Vrankic (18) and Henrik Jadersten (17) combined for 58 points.

QUICK HITS...
• Injuries continue to plague the Broncos, who have had four players miss games this season, including three who remain on the shelf. Two-time All-West Coast Conference guard KJ Feagin (hand) and Fallou Ndoye (foot) are out of action indefinitely, and Juan Ducasse (knee) is done for the season.
• Tahj Eaddy is the team's leading scorer (11.1 ppg) and Josip Vrankic is second (12.6) while shooting 53 percent from the floor. With 49 points in the last two games, Trey Wertz is now third in scoring (11.0 ppg). Josh Martin is the leading rebounder at 8.4 per contest. He has totaled 28 rebounds during the last two games.
• Josip Vrankic has connected on 31 of 53 field goals (58 percent) in the last four games ... Zeke Richards has gone 7-for-9 from the field in the last two outings.

YEAR THREE UNDER SENDEK...
The Broncos are in their 112th year of existence, including third under Herb Sendek, who has been successful in each of his three previous head-coaching stops. With a resume that includes 18 postseason appearances and three conference coach of the year awards, Sendek, was one of the three youngest coaches with 400 or more career victories. He is in his 25th season as a collegiate head coach with stops at Arizona State, North Carolina State and Miami (Ohio).

NEW-LOOK ROSTER...
• Guard KJ Feagin, and forwards Henrik Jadersten and Josip Vrankic are the only returning rotational players. Feagin, a three-year starter, is a two-time All-West Coast Conference selection who averaged 17.5 points per game (fifth in the league) and 4.0 assists pg (ninth in the league) in 2017-18. Jadersten, a senior, appeared in 84 games his first three years and Vrankic was one of the more productive freshmen in the WCC during 2017-18. Vrankic was third on the team in both scoring (10.4 ppg) and rebounding (4.6 pg).
• Sophomore guard Tahj Eaddy is eligible this season after sitting out 2017-18. He transferred from Southeast Missouri last summer.
• There are eight additions to the 2018-19 squad, including five true freshmen in Guglielmo Caruso (Naples, Italy), Juan Ducasse (Montevideo, Uruguay), Keshawn Justice (Madison, Wisconsin), Zeke Richards (Oak Park, California) and Trey Wertz (Charlotte, North Carolina). Fallou Ndoye, DJ Mitchell and Josh Martin are transfers. Ndoye (CSU Bakersfield) and Martin (Cal Poly) are graduate transfers. Mitchell played the last two seasons at Wake Forest and will sit out 2018-19.

ABOUT NORTHERN ARIZONA...
The Lumberjacks, who play in the Big Sky Conference, are led by seventh-year head coach Jack Murphy. Five players average 9.0 or more points per game, led by Carlos Hines (13.0) and Bernie Andre (12.2). Saturday's game ends a stretch of five straight on the road for the Lumberjacks who lost to UC Davis, 73-57, on Thursday.

THE NORTHERN ARIZONA SERIES...
The Broncos hold a 4-1 series lead over the Lumberjacks, who play in the Big Sky Conference. The teams are meeting for the third-straight season.

Anthony Passarelli (play-by-play) and John Stege (analyst) will call the action during the season on radio and through TheW.tv at home.
