Santa Clara won the 42nd annual Cable Car Classic title, 89-88, in overtime vs. UTEP. It was the first overtime Cable Car Classic title game in its 42-year history. Santa's John Bryant was named the MVP. Also named to the All-Tournament team was Stefon Jackson and Randy Culpepper of UTEP; and Ben Dowdell, Kevin Foster and John Bryant of Santa Clara.

Santa Clara Head Coach Kerry Keating

Opening Statements
"We are excited that we won. It was one heck of a college basketball game. I didn't realize Stefon Jackson had 44 points. John knew we wanted him (Bryant) to have 44 points but he missed eight lay ups and to have a guy score 44 on us they knew where he was going and he still got the shots off - he is a heck of a player. I give UTEP a lot of credit for playing that well and forcing the game into overtime. I know Tony Barbee personally and I give him a lot of credit. That is why we play the game is because things can happen like that and to have John execute the play even after what happened and that is execution. That shows senior leadership and that he is a go to guy that our team is counting on. We are looking forward to going into the New Year on a two game winning streak. It is a real honor to win the Cable Car Classic - this tournament means so much to so many at Santa Clara and to our team."

Santa Clara Center John Bryant

On the last play in overtime...
"The play is 51 and go. It's my play and I get in there and finish the play. I went in there and had to finish and being a senior and a leader, it was a huge win for us. There is a lot of momentum going into the East Coast trip. Coach always tells we are a good team and it was a good win for me."

Santa Clara Guard James Rahon

On what happened at the end of the overtime...
"First, I tried to get my balance and once I got my balance I thought about getting the ball to Perry and to just score. I surprised to hear the whistle."

Santa Clara Guard Kevin Foster

On his confidence of play right now...
"I am just playing confident and getting more and more confident with each game. Coach Keating always tells me to let it come to me and I am trying to do that."
