SANTA CLARA, Calif. - An article in Sports Illustrated inspires people to do many different things. Maybe run a 10K or take up bowling or go to a baseball game. For Bronco basketball sophomore guard Troy Alexander it is something totally different. He is working to form his own team on www.NothingButNets.net to raise money and awareness to help fight malaria in Africa.
The program, Nothing But Nets, provides mosquito repellant nets for children to sleep under to avoid becoming victims of malaria.

"I read an article recently in Sports Illustrated about the problems with marlaria in Africa and my immediate reaction was to purchase some nets to help save lives in Africa," said Alexander, a native of Dallas, Texas who is in his second year as a guard with the Santa Clara University basketball team. "Nothing But Nets is just one part of a bigger project to end malaria-related deaths in Africa by 2015. It's a very important goal."
Alexander has formed a `team' on the www.NothingButNets.net website. To donate go to NothingButNets.net, and join `TEAM TROY' to donate. From there, you can donate to `TEAM TROY'. Very simple, very needed.
"I was blessed to be raised in a home where I didn't have to worry about having enough food to eat or clean water to drink," said Alexander. "I believe that those of us who have the resources and abilities, have a responsibility to help out those in need."
"I want to give back," added Alexander. "I am encouraging my teammates, friends - especially those in my personal network - to log on and donate today. Every 30 seconds a child dies of malaria. Just a $10 donation will help save the life of a child in Africa. How often do you get the opportunity to actually save a life!?"
