Men's Rowing Begins 50th Spring Season at Davis Invite Sunday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara men's rowing begins the spring schedule of its 50th season Sunday, March 1 when it travels to the Port of Sacramento for the Davis Invitational. The Broncos will field a crew in all five races, which also feature boats from UC Davis and Sonoma State.

Sunday's event is the first of five in the spring schedule leading up to the WIRA Championships in late April and Western Sprints in mid-May.

"We are really looking forward to racing UC Davis and Sonoma State on Sunday," head coach Jay Farwell said. "We begin each racing season with the Davis Invitational and we always welcome the chance to participate in this event."

"Our preparation to this point has gone well and there is a definite sense of anticipation for getting the sprint season under way," Farwell said. We had our largest recruiting class in the history of this program and we are really pleased with the freshmen impact on the team. We are a very young squad with only one senior and one junior but the athleticism and competitiveness of this year's crew is one of the best I have ever been a part of."
FALL 2014
Bronco crew competed twice in the fall — at Head of the American Oct. 25 and Head of the Lagoon Nov. 8. The Novice 8+ boats won each of their races
"We have set the expectations high for this group and the guys are taking on the challenge that we have set for them so far," Farwell said. "We have a really solid schedule this year and are going to approach the schedule one week at a time focusing on our execution and ensuring that the guys do not underestimate the challenges that lie ahead."
