Men’s Rowing Wins Two of Four Races against UCSD, Gonzaga

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Santa Clara men's rowing continued its strong start to the season by winning another pair of races at the Port of Sacramento on Friday. The Bronco Varsity 8 and Novice 8 boats finished first in the four-event regatta against UC San Diego and Gonzaga.

The Bronco Varsity 8 boat took first in the closest race of the day — a little more than 12 seconds separated the Broncos and third-place Gonzaga. Santa Clara edged UC San Diego's boat by 3.2 seconds. In the Novice 8 race, Santa Clara distanced itself from second-place Gonzaga by 26 seconds.

Santa Clara's 2nd and 3rd Varsity 8 boats finished in third place. UC San Diego won both those events. Each of the crews faced tough conditions, including a quartering head wind that picked up throughout the day.

Santa Clara returns to the water April 2-3 at the San Diego Crew Classic in Mission Bay.
