HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England – Santa Clara men's rowing continued its impressive performance in England with a win over Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Wednesday in the Temple Challenge Cup as part of the Henley Royal Regatta.

The Broncos topped WPI by two boat lengths after qualifying on Friday in a pool of 52 crews.

"We had a good first round race," Santa Clara head coach Jay Farwell said. "These are single elimination races so there is a lot at stake and when you also add on the fact that this is one of the premier rowing events in the world, I thought the guys had a very good performance. We faced a good team from WPI and we were fortunate to establish an early lead and carry that down the course."

Santa Clara faces Virginia tomorrow at 3:30 a.m. Pacific.

"Next we face University of Virginia which is a very good crew," Farwell said. "We both carried the same time down the course for the first round so we anticipate that it is going to be a very competitive and tight race."
