SEATTLE – Santa Clara men's rowing competed at the Husky Open Saturday morning against Gonzaga and host Washington, one of the best crews in the country.
The Broncos finished second in both the V8 and 2V8 races. They finished ahead of Gonzaga but behind Washington.
"It was great to get our top two boats to line up against Washington at this point in the season but it also highlights how much work we have in front of us to compete against the best crews in the country," Santa Clara head coach Jay Farwell said. "I thought both our boats rowed well down the course and a credit to both our coxswains (Brendan Walsh in the Varsity 8 and Tatianna Schluep in the 2nd Varsity 8) for their performance down a challenging course. We also had the opportunity to see Gonzaga again and it was important for us to continue our early season success against them at this event as well. We will see Gonzaga again for the Western Sprint Championship in mid-May.
Santa Clara returns to the water April 14-15 at the Stanford Invite.
