SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Golf
Digest's top rated course in Mexico, Querencia Los
Cabos golf club, will be the site of the Santa Clara University
Cabo Collegiate Saturday through Monday, October 2-4.
The 54-hole tournament will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and run
through Monday with 18 holes being played each day on the par-72,
7,070-yard layout in Cabos San Lucas. Nine of the 12 competing
teams were ranked among GolfWeek's Top 100 a year ago.
The field includes Oregon State University, Lamar University,
Southern Methodist University, University of Arkansas, University
of California, Irvine, Saint Mary's College of California,
University of the Pacific, The University of Texas at Arlington,
University Houston, Boise State University, California State
University, Northridge and Santa Clara University.
"The only thing we have been missing in our efforts to compete at
the highest level is a top quality invitational," said Santa Clara
head coach Rob Miller. "We've made every effort to attract
the highest quality field and to host the event at the very best
golf course. This is a big step for our program."
Santa Clara is currently ranked No. 53 in the first official team
rankings released by GolfStat.com this week. Miller is armed with
one of the top players in the country, the reigning West Coast
Conference 'Player of the Year' Scott
Travers, 2009 and 2010 U.S. Open Sectional qualifier Cory Mehl and
the 2010 WCC 'Freshman of the Year' Rick Lamb.
