STATELINE, Calif. – The Santa Clara University men's golf team shot a solid second-round 299 at the University of Nevada's 2011 Wolf Pack Classic in Tahoe but ended up finishing 12th overall as a team.
"This was a pretty good field, but I wish we would have played a bit better," said Santa Clara head coach Rob Miller, who has three underclassmen in his top five this season. "Freshman Colin Gunstream had a nice finish and Scott Lowe was able to knock off some rust after a month off. We have finally gotten everyone healthy and are seeing some of the younger guys get more comfortable out there. It is going to be a growth process this year but I think we will get much better by the end of the season."
Santa Clara saw Lowe, a sophomore from Calgary, Alberta, shoot a team-best 73-78-78, while classmate Bobby Monaco posted rounds of 77-76-78. Gunstream rebounded from a disappointing first round to finish alongside Monaco in a tie for 49th.
"We have almost three weeks to prepare for Cabo and I know our guys are excited for that tournament," added Miller, who will take the Broncos down to Cabo San Lucas for an event co-hosted by SCU Oct. 27-29.
