TUCSON, Ariz. – Santa Clara University's men's golf team posted a solid second round down in Tucson Monday afternoon, but struggled in the morning 18s on both Monday and Tuesday and finished 15th overall at the 2013 Arizona Intercollegiate at The Golf Club at Vistoso.

"When you have a young team like this, you expect some setbacks," said Santa Clara head coach Rob Miller, who brought three true freshmen to the spring season's first event. "I hope this will motivate them to get back to work. Martin (Keskari) and Carlos (Briones) had been consistently top-25 finishers throughout the fall season, but did not play particularly well by their standards this week."

SCU posted a collective 293 in round two, led by Scott Lowe's (Calgary, Alberta) 2-under par 69. Lowe was the top-finisher for the Broncos, placing 39th among a strong national field at the event. Lowe went 9-over spanning the three rounds (74-69-79).

As a team, New Mexico used a third round score of 281 (-2), to win the event with a score of 844 (-8) – outplaying No. 1-ranked California, who placed third. Individually, there was a tie at the top of the leaderboard. California's Joel Stalter and Michael Kim finished in a tie for first place by shooting a total score of 204 (-9). Kim came storming back in the final round by firing a score of 65 (-6).

"We have a lot more work to do," says Miller. "This is the first time these freshmen have been off for so long and this field may be the toughest we will face all year … a bad combination. We have time to right the ship since this is so early in the spring season."

The Broncos aim to regroup when their 2013 spring schedule takes them to San Diego's Invitational (Feb. 11-12) at The Farms Golf Club and to The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. to play in the University of Wyoming's Desert Intercollegiate (Feb. 22-24) later this month.
