SCU's Martin Keskari One Shot Shy of Capturing First Collegiate Title

SCU's Martin Keskari One Shot Shy of Capturing First Collegiate Title

FINAL RESULTS

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. -
Santa Clara University's Martin Keskari continues to have quite a rookie season on the collegiate circuit. The 6-foot-3 true freshman from Frankfurt, Germany hit 16 greens Tuesday, posted an even-par 72, and nearly won the 2013 The Farms Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of San Diego.

Keskari was steady from tee to green throughout the 54-hole, two-day tournament, registering rounds of 74-70-72. Keskari is one event removed from a season-best 14-under par performance at the Pacific Invitational, where he placed third.

"I was definitely playing well, I think I missed just six or seven fairways all week," said Keskari on his way to the airport after Tuesday's round. "There's no doubt I will be getting more (individual) confidence out of this. It just shows that I'm working on the right things. I think (as a team) we had quite a few positives this week. We all know we still have to improve but this was a good step for us."

The Broncos placed 7th among a strong field, which included out-playing local West Coast Conference rival, No. 61 San Francisco.  All five SCU players had an impact, with Keskari's freshman classmate Drew Miller (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Chaminade College Prep) enjoying his best collegiate event to-date, placing 27th overall with rounds of 74-81-75. Junior Scott Lowe (Calgary, Alberta Canada / Edge School) was terrific on Tuesday, shooting an even-par 72.

"Martin had a great tournament and Scott had a good day today," said SCU head coach Rob Miller. "Bobby (Monaco) contributed in the second round ... Drew had two good rounds also. It wasn't a great tournament, we had to take a couple scores in the 80s which really hurt us, but overall we played pretty well."

"Carlos (Briones) was forced to sit out due to an injury but is expected to be available next week. It was nice to bounce back (after a disappointing tournament at Tucson in late January), obviously we certainly did not play our best but were right there with some pretty good teams. We will get healthy, focus on improvement and keep getting better and better heading into conference, bridging that gap with St. Mary's."

The Broncos will be back in tournament action Feb. 22 through 24 at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
