Gandionco Earns Top 20 Finish at WCC Championship

Bremerton, Wash. – Freshman Gio Gandionco earned his second straight top-20 finish placing in a tie for 13th with a tournament total of 4-over-par 220 at the WCC Championship on the Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton, Wash.

With rounds of 73, 70 and 77, Gandionco finished in a tie with USF's Taylor Travis and Pepperdine's Cody McManus, 10 shots behind tournament winner Grant Forrest of San Diego, who carded a 6-under-par 210 and was four shots better than James Fahy of Gonzaga.

The Broncos couldn't make up ground over the final 18 holes, compiling a team score of 904 (299-299-306) over the three rounds to finish in eighth place, 12 shots behind Loyola Marymount. "It wasn't our day," said Broncos head coach Rob Miller. "Things just didn't go right."

Saint Mary's captured its second straight team title with rounds of 288, 292 and 292 for a total of 872 (+8), two shots ahead of USF.

First round co-leader Scott Lowe finished in a tie for 16th place after a final round of 3-over 75. Lowe had a team-best 10 birdies over the three days and finished with a 5-over 221.

Junior Bobby Monaco had the highlight of the day for Santa Clara when he shot an eagle-3 on the sixth hole. Monaco ended the round with a 5-over 77 and had a tournament score of 227 (+11) good for a 30th place tie.

Carlos Briones had his best round of the tournament on Wednesday carding a 5-over 77 and ended the three days with a total of 237 (+21). Drew Miller had a final round 81 and completed the tournament with final score of 242.

"We were undermanned most of the season and we just tried to do the best we could," noted Miller. "We're looking forward to moving on. All five players will be back next season healthier, stronger and we are excited about that."
