SOMIS, Calif. – Led by juniors Gio Gandionco and Carlos Briones, who both shot 3-over 75, the Santa Clara men's golf team finished Monday's first round of the West Coast Conference Championship seven shots off the lead after scoring 310 at the 6,985-yard, par-72 Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif.

A total of 15 shots separate all nine teams with San Francisco holding down the top spot at 303 heading into Tuesday's second round. The Broncos are tied for fifth with St. Mary's at 310 (+22), one shot behind BYU and Pacific, who both completed the first 18 holes at 309. San Diego is four shots back of USF following Monday's 307. Pepperdine (313), Gonzaga (314), and LMU (318) round out the field.

Briones and Gandionco each shot 75 tied with four other golfers for fifth place, four shots behind first round leader Connor Campbell of LMU. Three players are tied for second at 2-over 74.

After playing his first nine holes at 3-over, Briones scored par on each of his final nine ending his round with 15 pars, the second-highest first round total.

Tyler Kertson and Hayden Shieh each shot 80 on Monday to for 27th with Drew Miller a shot behind his teammates after a first round 81.

The Broncos will be teamed with St. Mary's and Pacific for the second round teeing off from the first hole at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
