TUCSON, Ariz. – Behind another outstanding performance from sophomore Hayden Shieh, who captured sixth-place with a 2-under 211 tournament total, the Santa Clara men's golf team placed eighth at the 17-team Arizona Intercollegiate, completed today at the Sewailo Golf Club.

Shieh was one of seven golfers to score below par over the 54 holes. He fired a 3-under 68 in Friday's second round and followed that with a 2-under 69 Saturday to finish nine shots behind medalist Beau Hossler of Texas.

As a team, the Broncos improved their score in each round with Saturday's 291 moving them into the eighth spot. They finished with a total of 891 (+39). As expected, the three highest ranked schools placed atop the team leaderboard with No. 8 Texas capturing the title with an 843 total. No. 28 Washington took second with No. 16 Cal taking third.

Following a first-round 74, Shieh responded by scoring 5-under over the final two rounds to earn his seventh career top-10 finish.

Evan McLeod shot an even-par 71 in Saturday's final round to finish at 231 and Tyler Kertson had a 3-over 74. Kertson was the next highest Bronco finisher, tied for 47th with a three-round total of 226 (+13). Just like the team, both players improved their scores over the three rounds.

Santa Clara will return to Tucson for its next event, competing in the National Invitational Tournament starting Feb. 28.
