SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's golf team gets back on the course Thursday, heading up the road to Stanford to compete in The Goodwin tournament. The three-day event will cover 54-holes of stroke play on the 6,727-yard, par-70 Stanford Golf Course.
One of the most prestigious events in the country, The Goodwin routinely draws a strong field and this year's version is no different. No. 1 USC and tournament host No. 8 Stanford highlight the 25-team field. Also included are 13 other schools ranked in the top 100, according to the latest Golfstat.com poll.
The No. 84 Broncos will get a good look at their West Coast Conference competition with seven of the nine golf-playing schools competing just three weeks ahead of the conference championships. Pepperdine (38), St. Mary's (59), USF (82), BYU (127), Loyola Marymount (149) and Pacific (181) are the other WCC teams vying for the tournament title.
Santa Clara held its own at last year's event, placing 12th in the 24 team field that included eight teams ranked in the top-40 at the time.
Junior Tyler Kertson and sophomore Hayden Shieh, who both scored well at last year's event, will head Santa Clara's five-man team. They will be joined by freshmen Michiel Eyre III and Derek Ackerman and junior Evan McLeod.
Live scoring for The Goodwin is available here. Results and a tournament recap will be posted at the conclusion of each round.
