Shieh Keeps Men's Golf In Contention At USF Olympic Intercollegiate

SAN FRANCISCO – Led by junior Hayden Shieh, who carded a two-round total of 1-under 141, Santa Clara men's golf ended the first day of the USF Olympic Intercollegiate tied for ninth with a 36-hole total of 588.

The Broncos were consistent scoring rounds of 293 and 295 and are among a group of nine teams within 13 shots of each other. They are tied with Cal Poly at 20-over but are within seven shots of a top 5 placement. BYU shot even-par 568 to enter the clubhouse with a seven-shot lead over Saint Mary's.

Coming off one of the best seasons in program history, Shieh continued his stellar play. He shot a 1-under 70 over the first 18 holes and followed with a 71. He's tied for sixth with one other player, just two shots behind second-round leader Stefano Mazzoli of TCU. Four players are tied at 2-under.

Michiel Eyre III carded an even-par 71 in the second round and is tied for 14th place at 2-over 144.

Playing in his first collegiate tournament, freshman Devrath Das scored 74 and 76 for a two-round total of 150. Evan McLeod scored identical rounds of 77 to end the day at 154. Charlie Watson carded rounds of 76 and 81 for a two-round total of 157.

Final round play is schedule to begin at 8:30 Tuesday morning on the 6,934-yard, par-71 Olympic Club Course.
