Men’s Golf Heads To Colorado For Mark Simpson Invitational On Monday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's golf is in Colorado to compete in the 7th annual Mark Simpson Invitational, hosted by the University of Colorado at the 7,745-yard, par-72 Colorado National Golf Club in Erie. The two-day event will begin with 36 holes on Monday followed by a single 18-hole round on Tuesday.

In their second tournament of the fall, the Broncos will compete with Air Force, Boise State, Campbell, Colorado, Gonzaga, Houston Baptist, Northern Colorado, Seattle, Southern Utah, Texas-Arlington, Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley State, Washington State, Weber State, Wichita State and Wyoming.

Junior Hayden Shieh led the Broncos at the USF Olympic Intercollegiate two weeks ago placing in a tie for fifth-place with a 1-over 214. It was his sixth career top-5 finish. The Broncos finished with an 889 team total, good for 10th place.

Sophomore Michiel Eyre III played the first two rounds of the USF Olympic Intercollegiate at 2-over par and ended as the second-highest Bronco finisher tied for 29th with a 221 total.

Freshman Matt McCarty will compete in his first collegiate tournament and will round out the Broncos lineup with Devrath Das and Charlie Watson.

The event is named in honor of Mark Simpson, who served as Colorado's head coach for 29 years until he passed away in 2005. He was inducted earlier that year into the GCAA Hall of Fame.

Details: There will be 36 holes of continuous play on Monday with a shotgun format start at 7:15 a.m. (PT). Teams and individuals will play 18 holes on Tuesday in a staggered shotgun format. The top four teams will play in five tee times off No. 1 beginning at 6:55 a.m. The rest of the field will begin play at 7:15 a.m. with a shotgun start.
