SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's golf is back on the links Monday at the 18-team Redhawk Invitational presented by OGIO. The tournament is hosted by Seattle University and will be competed over two days on the 7,223-yard, par-71 Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Washington.

The tournament field for this event isn't as stacked as the previous three spring events for the Broncos, but there are seven teams ranked in the top-100 of the recent Golfstat.com poll. No. 35 Northwestern highlights the field, followed by No. 44 BYU, No. 53 Iowa State, No. 59 TCU and No. 69 Campbell.

"It's a decent field but we're not as concerned about the rankings," head coach Rob Miller said. "We're trying to get guys in a groove for the upcoming conference championship."

The Broncos haven't competed in three weeks when they battled 12 schools ranked in the top-100 at the Lamkin San Diego Classic. Santa Clara finished 13th at that event led by freshman Matt McCarty and junior Hayden Shieh.

McCarty was the team's top individual finisher for the first time in San Diego when he placed in a tie for 24th at 1-over 217. Shieh tied for 28th at 2-over 218. The pair also top the team in stroke average with Shieh at 71.24 and McCarty at 72.94.

"We need depth behind Matt and Hayden," Miller added. "We need somebody to step up in the third spot and support the other guys, hopefully we get that here."

Sophomores Charlie Watson, Derek Ackerman and Hassan Said comprise the rest of Santa Clara's five-player team. "We need more depth, so it's about getting guys hot at the right time," Miller concluded.

First round action begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Monday. Live scoring is available at Birdiefire.com.
