Shieh of Men's Golf Three Strokes Off The Lead After Two Rounds Of Redhawk Invitational

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Junior Hayden Shieh carded a pair of sub-par rounds to tie for third place just three shots off the lead after the first day of play at the Redhawk Invitational. As a team the Broncos saw an 11-shot improvement in the second round to place 14th with a 597 total.

Shieh, who has two career titles, opened the tournament with a 1-under 70 over the first 18 holes and followed with a 2-under 69 to finish the day tied with a trio of players at 3-under 139. Northwestern's Dylan Wu is the individual leader after two rounds at 6-under 136.

The Broncos struggled to a first round team score of 304 but rebounded to finish off the second round with a 293. Iowa State leads the 18-team field after two rounds with a 4-over 572, one stroke better than Northwestern. Only 14 shots separate the Broncos from a top-five finish.

Freshman Matt McCarty shot a 2-over 73 in the second round and Charlie Watson scored a 3-over 74 to aid the team score. Four of the five players saw improved scores over the second 18 holes.

McCarty and Derek Ackerman are both tied for 58th at 10-over 152. Watson moved into a tie for 68th at 12-over 154. With rounds of 80 and 79, Hassan Said sits in a tie for 80th at 17-over 159.

The Chambers Bay Golf Course will be adjusted to play 7,057 yards with a par of 70 for Tuesday's final round, which will tee off at 8 a.m. PDT. Live scoring is available at Birdiefire.com.
