Two Men’s Golfers Earn Spots on WCC All-Academic Team

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara's Michiel Eyre III and Hayden Shieh were among the 10 student-athletes placed on the 2016-17 WCC Men's Golf All-Academic team.

Shieh, one of the top-ranked golfers on the West Coast, earned a spot for the second-straight season. The junior's stroke average of 70.81 ranks No. 33 in the nation, including third in the WCC, this season. The two-time NCAA Championships qualifier finished in the top 10 in six of his nine events, including second-place showings at the John Burns Intercollegiate (Feb. 15-17) and Redhawk Invitational (April 3-4).

Eyre III, a sophomore, ranks third on the team in stroke average (74.62) this season after playing in seven of the team's events. He finished tied for 29th at the USF (Sept. 12-13) and tied for 41st at the Saint Mary's Invitational (Oct. 24-26).

Eyre III maintains a 3.59 grade-point average in biology and Shieh is studying accounting with a 3.57 GPA.

To be considered for the league academic honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team.
