SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – Junior Charlie Watson led a group of four Santa Clara men's golfers competing as individuals with a two-round total of 3-under 141 to tie for seventh-place after the first day of the Bill Cullum invitational.
Watson navigated the 6,849-yard, par-72 Wood Ranch Golf Club to a career-low tying 4-under 68 in the morning round, aided by an eagle on the par-5 sixth-hole. He carded a 1-over 73 over the second 18-holes to tie with a quartet of golfers for seventh-place, four-shots behind leader Derek Castillo of Cal State Fullerton.
Sophomore Ryan Johnson scored a pair of eagles in the first-round to complete the opening 18-holes with an even-par 72. His second-round 2-under 70 put Johnson in a tie for 12th place with a total of 142.
Also competing as individuals are sophomores Will DelBiaggio, who carded a 1-under 145 to tie for 26th place, and Devrath Das, who ended the day at 14-over 158.
All four golfers are competing in their first event of the season.
Final round action begins Tuesday morning at 7:45 a.m. PT with a shotgun start. Live scoring for the event is available on golfstat.com.
