SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Following their second team title in three events, Santa Clara men's golf climbed to No. 20 and closes out its fall season at the stacked Saint Mary's Invitational, which gets underway Monday at the 7,002-yard, par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.

The 18-team field boasts seven teams ranked in the top-50 and 12 top-100 squads, according to the recent Golfstat.com poll. Stanford is the highest ranked team at No. 13 followed by the Broncos. Also competing are Colorado State (21), BYU (24), USC (33), Arizona (46) and Saint Mary's (50).

"This event features our strongest test of the year with 12 of the 18 teams in the top-100, so we are looking forward to the challenge," head coach Rob Miller said.

The Broncos captured the team title at The Jackrabbit and won last week's Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational. Those wins were sandwiched around a runner-up finish at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational to give the team its lofty ranking.

Miller penciled in the same five players that have competed in every event this year, led by senior Hayden Shieh, who ranks 10th on the Golfstat.com individual list with an adjusted scoring average of 69.24. Sophomore Matt McCarty's 70.68 adjusted scoring average is good for No. 82 on the individual list.

Junior Derek Ackerman and freshmen Zack Kaneshiro and Jack Avrit will compete for Santa Clara. All five players finished among the top-20 in the 112-player field at the Stockton tournament.

Teams and individuals will play a single 18-hole round over three days with each round starting at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com.
