TUCSON, Ariz. – Second-round play at the Arizona Intercollegiate was suspended due to darkness with Santa Clara men's golf in 13th place after completing 30 of the scheduled 36 holes on Monday. The field will finish off the second round Tuesday morning before the final 18 holes on the 7,283-yard, par-71 Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson.

The Broncos had a strong opening round, covering the first 18 holes with a team total of 312. Windy conditions played havoc on the scores with no team finishing the first-round below 303.

"It was pretty rough," head coach Rob Miller said of the playing conditions. "Things started to lighten up in the afternoon, but unfortunately it didn't help us."

Santa Clara had a rough start to the second round and fell from sixth after the opening 18 holes into 13th-place with six holes remaining in the middle round. "We kind of fell apart in the second-round," Miller added. "It was just one thing after another."

Individually the Broncos were led by senior Hayden Shieh and sophomore Matt McCarty, who each carded a first-round 5-under 76 and were 6-over through 12 second-round holes to tie for 41st place.

"We didn't play poorly," Miller said of his team. "We're just not accustomed to playing in the wind and the wheels came off in that second round. We have 24 holes tomorrow, which gives us a chance to make up some ground."
