SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The competition won't be as stiff for Santa Clara men's golf as the team heads south for the 11-team University of San Diego Intercollegiate. The two-day event gets underway Monday morning at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe with the field navigating the 6,947-yard, par-72 course over a total of 54 holes.

The Broncos opened their spring season two weeks ago with a 10th-place showing at the Arizona Intercollegiate, where 14 of the 18 teams were ranked in the Golfstat top-100. "That is one of the toughest fields we will compete in," head coach Rob Miller said of the event.

After playing the first five events of the year with the same lineup, and climbing into the top-20 of the Golfstat national rankings, the Broncos will have a different look in San Diego with sophomore Will DelBiaggio competing as a team member for the first time this year.

The top three in the lineup remains the same with senior Hayden Shieh anchoring the squad, followed by sophomore Matt McCarty in the No. 2 spot and junior Derek Ackerman in the No. 3 position. Freshman Zack Kaneshiro is the fifth member of the team.

Jack Avrit, Berk Harvey and Michiel Eyre III will all compete as individuals.

The tournament field also consists of teams from Cal Poly, Idaho, New Mexico State, Sacramento State, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, UCLA, UC Riverside and Wichita State.

Teams and individuals are schedule to play 36 holes on Monday beginning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
