Second Round Play Suspended for Men’s Golf at the Farms Invitational

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – Santa Clara men's golf held the lead after first-round play at The Farms Invitational, but lost a few strokes before second-round action was suspended due to darkness. Teams and individuals will complete the second round early Tuesday morning ahead of the final 18 holes.

"It's anybody's ball game right now," head coach Rob Miller said. "It could have been much worse. We played the toughest holes really well and made up a lot of ground on 15, 16 and 17."

The Broncos carded a first-round 3-under 285 to take a 4-shot lead over UCLA and Cal Poly, but they were slow out of the gate in the middle 18 holes. Unofficially, the Broncos were at 9-over when play was halted, 2-shots behind San Francisco and tied with San Diego for third.

"The top teams are all about the same," Miller added. "With about 20 holes to go anything can happen tomorrow."

Senior Hayden Shieh and junior Michiel Eyre III, who's competing as an individual, each shot 3-under 69 over the opening 18 holes. However, Shieh tumbled to 7-over in the second round as the team score ballooned. Eyre maintained his strong play and was at even-par through the second round.

All second-round scores are unofficial since the round wasn't completed.

Teams and individuals will start play at 8 a.m. Tuesday on the 6,947-yard, par-72 Farms Golf Club to finish off the second round. Third and final-round action will begin immediately afterward. Live scoring is available at
