Second-Round Suspended For Men’s Golf At Arizona NIT

TUCSON, Calif. – Following a rough first-round at the Arizona NIT that saw them 25 shots off the lead, Santa Clara men's golf rallied in the second-round before play was suspended due to darkness. The field will complete the second-round Monday morning in advance of the final 18 holes.

"We struggled in the morning round," head coach Rob Miller said. "There is no reason for us to be over par."

The Broncos carded a first-round 292 to place in a tie for 12th at the conclusion of the opening 18 holes. The squad climbed three spots on the team leaderboard with between three and four holes remaining to be played in the second round. Scores for the middle round are unofficial since play wasn't completed.

"We had a good round going in the second," Miller added. "We got to 11-under, which is a good score for this course, but we kind of lost it on the last few holes. We have our work cut out for us tomorrow."

On the strength of a pair of eagles, senior Hayden Shieh opened the tournament with a 2-under 70 over the first 18 holes. Unofficially Shieh was at 3-under in the second-round and tied for 16th with a handful of golfers at 5-under when play was halted.

In addition to Shieh's two eagles, Will DelBiaggio and Michiel Eyre III also carded a 2-under hole in the first-round. Matt McCarty scored an eagle in the second-round to give the Broncos a tournament-best five.

The field will begin play at 7:30 a.m. PT on Monday with the final-round starting immediately after the conclusion of second-round play. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
