Two Men's Golfers Advance in U.S. Open Qualifying

PLEASANTON, Calif. – Six members of the Santa Clara men's golf spent part of their preparation for next week's NCAA Championships by playing in a local U.S. Open qualifier with two advancing to sectionals.

Matt McCarty and Derek Ackerman each fired a 3-under par 69 on Tuesday at Ruby Hill Golf Club to finish in a tie for second place.

Brandon Wu of Stanford posted a 6-under to lead five players advancing to June's sectional qualifying round.

McCarty and Ackerman each started on the 10th hole and closed strong on the final nine. McCarty was 3-under and Ackerman 2-under over their final six holes.

Hayden Shieh and Jack Avrit were the closest Broncos to the 2-under cutline. Shieh finished at 2-over and Avrit 4-over.

Berk Harvey carded an 8-over and Will DelBiaggio was 9-over.

The Broncos open play in the NCAAs on Monday at the regional in Raleigh, North Carolina.
