TOLEDO, Ohio – The rain subsided long enough to allow Santa Clara men's golf to card the lowest final-round score with a 285 and take fourth-place at the 14th annual Inverness Intercollegiate with an 872 total.

Monday's second-round was suspended due to heavy rain in the Toledo area and more precipitation was forecast for today. However, there was enough of a break to allow the field to complete all 54 holes. "Amazing we got it in," head coach Rob Miller said.

Three of Santa Clara's five team members had their lowest score of the tournament in the final round, leading the Broncos to the day's low score at 1-over 285. They finished one-stroke behind Virginia and San Francisco, and eight-shots back of champion Tennessee.

"It's a shame we finished one-shot out of second place," Miller said. "Although we didn't gain ground in the standings, we did pick up strokes on the teams ahead of us, and that's important in the team rankings."

Santa Clara's third-round surge was spearheaded by freshman Nordin van Tilburg, who shot a 2-under 69. Matt McCarty and Berk Harvey each carded even-par 71 over the final 18 holes as the Broncos matched the tournament-low round.

"It was a good finish for the guys," Miller added. "Really just a good tournament all around. Everybody played well and we needed that for a good finish."

McCarty and Harvey tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard at 4-over 217 leading four Broncos among the top-20. McCarty earned his ninth career top-10 finish while Harvey placed among the ten best for the first time in his career.

Overcoming a shaky first two rounds, van Tilburg moved up 14 spots on the leaderboard with his final-round 69 to finish tied for 14th at 7-over 220. Senior Derek Ackerman rounded out the quartet of top-20 players with a share of 17th-place at 8-over 221.

Competing as an individual, Michiel Eyre III made the biggest leap of any player climbing 27 spots on leaderbaord with a final-round 4-under 67. He eagled the par-5 13th hole and played the back nine at 5-under to move into a tie for 17th at 221.

"It was nice to see Michiel finish strong after a difficult second round," Miller said. "That shows just how strong we can be."

The Broncos return to action on October 8 competing in Cal's Alister Mackenzie Invitational at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.
