Men’s Golf Signs Four Players for 2019-20

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Coming off making an NCAA regional appearance last spring, Santa Clara men's golf has signed Alejandro Gutierrez, Oscar Zimmerman, Alex Conley, and Nolan Forsman, to national letters of intent for the 2019-20 season.

"It was an interesting recruiting year," Santa Clara head coach Rob Miller said. "Honestly, I really wasn't planning on bringing in four players, but, in the end, I just couldn't turn anybody down. They were all good enough players and prospects that I know I should make room for all four guys."

Gutierrez, a McAllen, Texas native, is a member of the Mexican National Team and has represented his country in the 2018 Toyota Junior World Championships. Gutierrez has also been in the top 10 of the rankings in Mexico since 2016. He intends to study either business or civil engineering at Santa Clara.

"I committed to Alejandro after getting to see him play in the statse a little and after hearing from a friend who had seen him, Miller said. "He's going to be a good fit with the school."

Zimmerman, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, was a state champion in the 2015-16 season. Zimmerman shot an average of 74 with eight rounds at par or better over 20 events during his senior year. He received all-state recognition in 2018 as well.

Forsman, born in Larchmont, New York, competed in the 2018 IMG Junior Worlds and won the IMG Stone Creek Junior World Qualifier. He intends to study business at Santa Clara. Away from the course, he enjoys listening to music and playing football with friends.

"I had a chance to see Oscar and Nolan for the first time at the US Junior AM," Miller said. "They were both interesting because of their rise in terms of their finishes and rankings. I was really impressed when I finally got to see them play.

Conley, a San Diego, California native, was a two-year All-Academic and shot a 73.6 scoring average in 2018. He played in the IMG Junior World Tournament for 3 straight years. Off the course, Conley volunteers for Study Buddy Mentoring for San Dieguito Drug Free Youth.

"Alex is really skilled and had offers from other schools but felt really strongly that Santa Clara was the right fit for him," Miller said. "He had a great summer and was in the top-75 for the 2019 class so I decided to bring him in because I think he can really help the team in the long run. It's nice to get a player of that caliber willing to come to Santa Clara for all the right reasons."
