Men’s Golf Moves Into Tie For 11th After 36 Holes Of Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT, Calif. – Santa Clara men's golf improved its second-round score by eight-shots over a disappointing opening round and jumped two spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 11th after 36 holes of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.

The Broncos carded a 296 on Saturday and will enter Sunday's final round 28-shots behind leader and No. 18 Texas Tech. However, a number of teams are tightly-packed in the middle of the leaderboard and a top-5 is within reach. The Broncos are just 12 shots behind No. 39 Kansas and No. 47 Colorado State, who are tied for fourth at 588.

Freshman Konrad Brauckmeyer shot a 1-under 71 on Saturday to pace the Broncos. His two-round total of 146 has him tied for 15th place in the 120-player field.

Bouncing back with an even-par 72 on Saturday, senior Derek Ackerman climbed 30 spots on the individual leaderboard. His opening round 80 put him in a deep hole, though, and he entered the clubhouse tied for 62nd with seven other golfers, including teammate Matt McCarty, who carded identical rounds of 76.

Competing as an individual, Berk Harvey has a share of 22nd-place after rounds of 73 and 74 left him at 3-over 147.

Back in action after an injury-plagued fall season, sophomore Jack Avrit followed his opening 73 with a second-round 77. He dropped into a tie for 41st at 6-over 147.

Zack Kaneshiro had a two-shot improvement on Saturday, but a pair of rounds in the 80s have him well off the pace.

Final round action on the 7,305-yard, par-72 Classic Club course is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. PT. Saturday's second round was delayed by frost and there is a possibility the start of Round 3 is pushed back. Live scoring updates will be available at Golfstat.com.
