VIDEO: Ackerman, McCarty of Men's Golf Discuss Recent Team Success
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's golf begins a busy week Monday taking part in the 20-team Wyoming Cowboy Classic, which is being contested over two days at the 7,218-yard, par-72 Whirlwind Golf Club Cattail Course in Chandler, Ariz. Following Tuesday's final round the Broncos will head directly to Indiana to compete in the Boilermaker Invitational starting Saturday.
"It was a good time to schedule these events," head coach Rob Miller said. "We want to continue getting ready for the conference championship and feeling good about our game."
The Broncos had a good feeling after an eighth-place showing at the 27-team The Goodwin, where they bested seven top-50 teams and 12 teams overall with a higher ranking. Santa Clara climbed to No. 78 in the most recent Golfstat.com poll, putting them among the top teams competing at the Cowboy Classic.
"We're excited to get back out there after playing well at Stanford," Miller said. "This is definitely a tournament where our goal is to win it."

Three teams are ranked higher than the Broncos with UCLA topping the field at No. 39, followed by Boise State (63) and Cal State Fullerton (77).
The Broncos will trot out the same lineup that produced the team's second-lowest score of the fall and fourth lowest of the season with a final round 284 at The Goodwin.
Junior Matt McCarty will play out of the No. 1 spot with senior Derek Ackerman No. 2. They shared 14th-place at The Goodwin in a stacked field.
"We're looking for Derek and Matt to continue their solid play," Miller said.
Konrad Brauckmeyer, Berk Harvey and Jack Avrit complete the Broncos' five-player team. Sophomore Zack Kaneshiro will compete as an individual.
The field will play 36 holes on Monday with a shotgun start format at 7:30 a.m. PT. Live scoring updates will be available at Golfstat.com.
