Men’s Golf Ninth After 36 Holes at Boilermaker Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Santa Clara men's golf rebounded from a tough opening round to land in ninth place through 36 holes at the Boilermaker Invitational.

The Broncos, who carded a 4-over 580, made the largest improvement on the leaderboard from Saturday morning's opening round to the afternoon 18 holes at Purdue's home course.

Konrad Brauckmeyer, who is tied for 30th at even-par 144 in the 84-player field, shot a 2-under to help the team post a 3-under 285 in the second round and vault from 14th place.

Jack Avrit and Zack Kaneshiro are each one shot back of Brauckmeyer in a tie for 35th. Avrit posted rounds of 74-71 and Kaneshiro shot 73-72 on the 7,465-yard Kampen Golf Course.

Jordan Hahn of Wisconsin is atop the leaderboard at 9-under 135 (67-68).

Illinois State, Purdue and fifth-ranked Oklahoma are separated by only two shots in the 15-team field. Illinois State posted an 11-under 277 in the afternoon, best total of the either round, and leads the way at 16-under 560. The Boilermakers are one shot back and the Sooners two.

Matt McCarty and Derek Ackerman, Santa Clara's top two golfers, are each tied for 45th at 3-over 147.

Santa Clara is just six shots outside the top five. Michigan, which is fifth, shot a 1-under 287 in each round.

Tee times for Sunday's final round begin at 9 a.m. Eastern, though rain is in the forecast for the area. Scoring is available through Golfstat.com.
