Men’s Golf Tied For Sixth After Two Rounds Of WCC Championship

West Coast Conference Championship Central

STOCKTON, Calif. – Santa Clara men's golf carded a second round 295 to fall into a sixth-place tie with Pacific and Gonzaga at 582 after two rounds of the West Coast Conference Championship tournament.

First round leader San Francisco maintained its advantage with a 565 total and will take a two-stroke lead over Pepperdine into Saturday's final round, which begins with tee times at 7:30 a.m. PDT at the 7,133-yard, par-72 Reserve at Spanos Park. The Broncos will be one of the first teams off the tee box.

"Disappointing to not have it this tournament," head coach Rob Miller said. "We didn't get much help with the wind kicking up earlier today. Any kind of wind makes going at the pins stupid. We can't be aggressive."

Junior Matt McCarty signed a second-round even-par 72 to share ninth-place with a pair of golfers at 1-under 143. The trio is seven-shots behind leader Joshua McCarthy of Pepperdine.

None of Santa Clara's team members broke par on Friday, leading to the 295 team score.

"The guys knew they had to play well today and I think that affected us," Miller noted.

Freshman Konrad Brauckmeyer also shot a second-round 72 and is tied for 12th at even-par 144.

Jack Avrit and Derek Ackerman are among a group of six golfers tied for 29th at 4-over 148. Berk Harvey carded a second-round 77 to fall down the leaderboard with a 5-over 149.

"Everybody is trying as hard as they can," Miller said. "We just don't have the depth to make up for average scores by our top players. We'll try and put it together and have a great round tomorrow."
