Two Men's Golfers Recognized for Classroom Success

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Santa Clara's Derek Ackerman and Matt McCarty were named to the 2018-19 West Coast Conference Men's Golf All-Academic team.

McCarty was a first-team selection and Ackerman earned honorable mention.

McCarty, a finance major who maintains a 3.35 grade-point average, finished outside the top 20 in only three of the team's 11 events and posted a team-best stroke average of 71.26. An All-WCC honoree for the second straight season, the junior had five top 10 finishes, including a tie for fifth at the UC Irvine Invitational in February and tie for second at the Olympic Club Intercollegiate in March.

In his final season, Ackerman helped the team to five top five showings with four top 20 finishes, including a tie for ninth at the Olympic Club Intercollegiate. A two-time honorable mention All-WCC selection, he played in every tournament in 2018-19, ranking third on the team in stroke average (72.94) with 11 rounds under-par. Ackerman is also a finance major who has a 3.26 GPA.

To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team.
