SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – Freshman Alex Conley shot a 6-under 138 on Monday to grab a share of eighth-place after two rounds of the Bill Cullum Invitational.

One of four Broncos competing as an individual at the event, and one of three players making his first collegiate start, Conley shredded the 6,849-yard, par-72 Wood Ranch Golf Club with a first-round 5-under 67 that featured an eagle-3 on the par-5 18th hole and four birdies.

"He had a good day," head coach Rob Miller said of Conley. "He's a happy guy."

The rest of the Broncos weren't so fortunate in the first round, but they all bounced back in the afternoon.

Following an opening 80, freshman Oscar Zimmerman counter-punched with an even-par 72 leaving him tied for 77th at 8-over 152.

Freshman Nolan Forsman connected on rounds of 76 and 74 for a share of 66th at 6-over 150.

The only Bronco among the quartet with collegiate experience, senior Will Del Biaggio had a seven-stroke improvement with a second-round 1-over 73 to move up 12 spots on the leaderboard.

"Not quite sure what happened that first round," Miller noted. "But they bounced back in the second. It's a good experience for all of them."

The four are competing for a spot on the five-player team that will compete at next week's Stockton Invitational with Conley having a big edge heading into the final round. "He's looking pretty good," Miller said of his chances.

San Diego State's Puwit Anupansuebsai is the clubhouse leader at 15-under 129. The Aztecs also hold a 17-swing bulge on the team leaderboard.

Tuesday features a shotgun start format at 8 a.m. PT. Live scoring and results are available by clicking here.
