Stanford Edges Men's Golf in Season-Opening Dual Match

STANFORD, Calif. - Santa Clara men's golf kicked off the 2020-21 season on Monday, falling to Stanford, 8-5, in a match-play event.

The Cardinal defeated the Broncos, 5-4, in medal match play at the Stanford Golf Course with Matt McCarty, Oscar Zimmerman, Zack Kaneshiro and Johnny Ward claiming Santa Clara victories.

McCarty has the best score of the day, firing a 5-under 65 to best Karl Villups by seven strokes.

Stanford won three of the four fourball matchups. Alex Conley and Jack Avrit teamed up to down Stanford's Ashwin Arasu and David Leede 1 up.
