Men’s Golf in Fifth After 36 Holes of Duck Invitational

EUGENE, Ore. – A solid second round helped Santa Clara men's golf move up the leaderboard at the Duck Invitational.

The Broncos fired a 5-over 289 in Monday's second round, fourth-best in the 15-team field, to improve from eighth to fifth place at the two-day event being held at Eugene Country Club.

Oregon, the host school, leads the field at 4-over 572 (287-285). Oregon State is two shots back after rounds of 286-288. Boise State and Washington are tied for third at 15-over 583.

Santa Clara, with three players in the top 30, shot a 14-over 289 in Monday's opening round and is at 19-over, one shot ahead of San Jose State.

Jack Avrit led the way for the Broncos who had an opening-round 298. He is tied for seventh place at even-par 142 (71-71) and made his mark on the par-5 holes, shooting 4-under.

Alex Conley is tied for 21st at 5-over 147 (75-72). Matt McCarty rebounded from a tough opening round and sits in a tie for 29th. He jumped from a tie from 66th with a 1-under 70 in the second round after a 79 on the first 18 holes.

Spencer Tibbits of Oregon State and Hugo Townsend of Boise State are tied for first at 5-under 137.

Berk Harvey, who is tied for 60th at 14-over 156 (73-83), and Konrad Brauckmeyer, who is tied for 66th at 15-over 157 (81-76), round out the Santa Clara lineup.

The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday. Start time is 8:30 a.m. Follow the scoring on Golfstat.com.
