Box Score

The Santa Clara University men's soccer squad dropped its second consecutive West Coast Conference road match losing to Gonzaga by a 1-0 score Sunday afternoon at Martin Field in Spokane, Wash.

The Broncos (6-5-1, 0-2-0 WCC) put tremendous pressure on the Bulldogs (3-7-1, 1-0-1 WCC) in the first half, outshooting the Zags by an 8-1 margin. Despite the onslaught of shots, Gonzaga goalkeeper Mike McCarthy came up with the big stops throughout the game, finishing with five saves on the afternoon.

The only score of the game came in the 53rd minute when Scott Yuska gathered a lose ball off a throw in and slipped into the back of the net from 16 yards out. Gonzaga only managed five shots on the day, four of which were on the mouth of the goal.

Sophomore Kent Harkness made his third consecutive start for Santa Clara between the pipes and made three saves. Kirk Fonseca led the Santa Clara offense with four shots followed by Matt Upton, Will Weatherly and Ryan Wolfe who each had two shots.

The Broncos will end their three-game WCC road schedule next Friday night when they face the University of San Diego at 7 p.m. Following that match, Santa Clara will have four games remaining, three of which will be at Buck Shaw Stadium against WCC foes.
