Irvine, Calif. - Santa Clara's Kelechi Igwe headed in the only goal of the match off a crossing pass from Kellen Gilmore to give the Broncos a 1-0 win over Fresno State in the UC Irvine Men's Soccer College Classic at Anteater Stadium Monday.
Igwe's goal came at 73:52 and lifted Santa Clara to a 2-0 start on the season. Fresno State (0-2) was forced to play with only 10 players for the final 50 minutes of the match after the Bulldogs' Andrew Gregorio received a red card in the first half at 39:44.
Santa Clara goalkeeper Steve Cronin had two saves in the shutout while Fresno State's Eric Kronberg recorded five stops. Santa Clara outshot the Bulldogs 18-5.
