Broncos Pick Up Big WCC Win Over Toreros

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Santa Clara University's men's soccer team remained unbeaten in West Coast Conference play after beating the University of San Diego 2-1 on the road Friday night.

Santa Clara (7-4-5; 4-0-4 WCC) picks up an important road win heading into Sunday's match with LMU. The victory was win No. 100 for ninth-year SCU head coach Cameron Rast.

The Toreros drop to 6-7-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the West Coast Conference. 

SCU scored quickly finding the net in the 3rd minute of the match. Erik Hurtado scored on a header from a corner kick. In the 53rd minute, USD committed a hard foul in their box awarding a penalty kick to the Broncos. Hurtado scored again shooting the lower right for the 2-0 lead.

Less than five minutes later, USD responded with a Conor McFadden goal. A foul about 30 yards out on the near side by Santa Clara gave USD an opportunity to setup in the penalty box. Dan Delgado sent a ball to the far side where McFadden connected from four yards out cutting the Santa Clara lead, 2-1. Credit Delgado with the assist. USD had a few more good looks but was unable to connect to score the equalizer.

The squads combined for 30 fouls, 10 of which came from USD and 20 by Santa Clara. USD out-shot the Broncos 5-3 and owned a 6-5 tally on corner kicks.
