IRVINE, Calif.— The Bronco men's soccer team picked up another win over the weekend as they traveled down to UC Irvine. The 2-1 victory came in the 88th min. of the game with a clutch goal by Harrison Hanley, notching his first of the season.
The win puts the Broncos at 3-4-0 in the 2013 season and the Anteaters hold a record of 4-2-2. The Santa Clara defense held strong throughout the match as the Anteaters outshot the Broncos 12-8 and Bronco goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh picked up four saves.
The Broncos will now head back up to the Bay Area to prepare for their final non-conference game at Cal on Fri., Sept. 27 at 4:30 p.m.
The Broncos were the first to concede a goal in the 21st minute after Irvine's Bryan Breslin sent a cross into the Bronco's box for Lester Hayes III to head in the back of the net.
Just before halftime, the Broncos countered as Edson Cardona took a shot from the top of the Anteater's box to even up the score at 1-1.
After the men battled throughout the second half, the Broncos took the lead after Hanley knocked in a loose ball in the Anteater's box for the game winner in the 88th min.
With six seconds left in the match, Irvine's Hayes was issued a red card ejection for picking up his second yellow card of the match.
