BERKELEY, Calif.—The Bronco men's soccer team closes out their non-conference play with an overtime loss at No. 2 California. The loss gives the Broncos an overall record of 3-5-0 in the 2013 season and puts the Golden Bears at 6-0-1.

The Bears outshot the Broncos 14-4 and shots on goal 6-0 with Bronco goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh picking up five saves.

"In many areas the team played well," said Bronco head coach Cameron Rast. "From the opening kick we competed for every moment and did so for 90 minutes. Defensively we were organized and won a lot of challenges. It wasn't our most effective game in attack but give Cal credit, they are solid."

The Broncos will continue to play on the road as they open up West Coast Conference play at the University of San Diego Fri., Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcasted live on the new WCC Digital Network, TheW.tv.

After a scoreless regulation, the men headed into overtime where Cal scored the deciding goal at the end of the first period. In the 100th min. Cal's Max Oldham crossed the ball into the Broncos box for Alec Sundly to put it into the back of the net.

The Broncos defense had a solid performance tonight holding off Cal's attack and making an offensive impact. Senior defenders Mark Daus and Phillip Muscarella collected a combined three shots out of Santa Clara's four.

Cal's Luis Fuentes recorded a team high of five shots tonight with three on goal.

"The amount of improvement in our non-conference matches was tremendous," continued coach Rast. "We feel the team can compete with anyone in the country as evident of tonight. We spent a lot of the time on the road knowing that will be key in making a run at the WCC title. Its our Mission to have the team ready for next weekend."
