Carlos Montes Named WCC Men's Soccer Player of the Week

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara's Carlos Montes was named the West Coast Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for his performance at Portland and Gonzaga this past weekend.

"First of all, I'm happy we were able to get the two wins this weekend," said Montes. "I feel this will be good for us as a team going forward. I am very humbled that I have been selected WCC Player of the Week and I hope that I can contribute to my team's success as we continue to battle this season."

"Carlos has been a warrior for us," said Broncos head coach Cameron Rast. "He comes to training with a high level of intensity every week and he has been working on his game relentlessly. You can't say enough about what he brings to the table and a lot of it is intangible. We measure some of the goals he's had for us this year as very impactful but in many ways he is more impactful for us based on how hard he works defensively and in front of the net. It's very difficult for players to stay with him for 90 minutes because he just has an unbelievable intensity to work at a high level."

Montes knocked in the game-winning goals in each of the Broncos' matches this past weekend, collecting a total of three game-winners in WCC play.

In the match at Portland, Montes had two out of the eight shots for the Broncos and knocked in the lone-goal of the game in the 98th min. to give the Broncos the win.

At Gonzaga, the Broncos and Bulldogs were tied 1-1 at the half with the equalizing goal scored by Harrison Hanley. Less than five minutes into the second half, a throw-in by the Broncos gave Montes a shot 15 yards out giving the Broncos the go-ahead goal and the eventual victory.
