Two Men's Soccer Players Earn WCC All-Academic Honors

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - As West Coast Conference play comes to a close this weekend, the Broncos are still in the running for the conference title. Proving their work ethic on the field, two Santa Clara men's soccer players were awarded for their hard work in the classroom as members of the 2013 West Coast Conference All-Academic Team. Junior Glenn Vass was named to the All-Academic Team while sophomore Max Ornstil was honorable mention.

A finance major, Vass maintains a 3.62 cumulative GPA. He was a member of the WCC All-Academic team in 2012 and was picked for the WCC All-Freshman team in 2011.

"Glenn is a hard worker on the field and off the field," said Bronco head coach Cameron Rast. "He is very grounded in his approach to everything he does. For him to be recognized in the academic side of being a student-athlete shows just how complete he is as a person and how exceptional he is at balancing his life so he can achieve great things."

Ornstil, a business major, maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.31. He was a member of the 2012 WCC All-Freshman Team and has played in all of the Broncos' matches in the 2013 season.

"Max is in our leadership group and is someone that I am hopeful will continue to grow and develop his leadership skills for our team," continued Rast. "He works hard at balancing his academics and his athletics and he's done a great job for us."

Rast stresses the importance of being a well-rounded student-athlete right from the start while recruiting his players.

"When we bring in our recruiting class, the one thing we are very adamant about stressing is that they are going to be student-athletes, not just athletes," said Rast. "That is very important to us. Our entire staff are alums of Santa Clara so we are intimately engaged in what we have to do to be successful here and going forward."
