SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Riverside, Calif.) – After an impressive 0-0 draw to the No. 1 team in the country on Friday night, the Santa Clara men's soccer team tallied its fourth consecutive shutout with a 1-0 win over UC Riverside on Sunday night. Behind goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh, the Broncos finish their Southern Californian swing with a 4-1-1 record while the Highlanders move to 1-4 on the season.

"Tonight's game against Riverside was not an easy match," said Santa Clara head coach Cameron Rast. "Anytime you play a high-ranked opponent through overtime periods, it's important to be consistent and remember to do the little detailed things well in the next match. Our guys did a tremendous job holding up the opponents this weekend. Tonight, we kept our concentration, scored early and did not let down."

The Broncos attempted seven shots to the Highlander's 14 and were able to put three shots on goal. Santa Clara's goalkeeper from Santa Rosa, Calif., McIntosh, made eight saves during the match and blocked Riverside's six shots on goal. The junior holds a 4-1-1 record as the starting goalkeeper and collects his fourth consecutive shutout in the net for the Broncos. Last season, McIntosh led the team to six shutouts.

Rast stressed the consistent performance of his goalkeeper. "Kendall was very good tonight. He made all the necessary plays and made some superb blocks," said Rast. "Riverside had a lot of good shots, but Kendall remained solid in the net. He is really meshing well with the black line and continues to manage the game very well."

Playing its second game on the road this weekend, Santa Clara wasted no time dictating the pace of the match. In the first minute, Valdemar Andersen crossed the ball from the left side of the field to the feet of Steve Eneme in the six-yard box. Eneme scored his first collegiate goal in the 51st second with a tap-in, beating UCR goalkeeper Ashkan Khosravi. This is the first collegiate assist for Andersen.

Santa Clara led 1-0 at halftime and had a good opportunity to close the match in the 80th minute. Jared Hegardt took a great strike at the top of the 18-yard box that stayed low on frame but was saved by the Highlander's goalkeeper.

The match ended 1-0 in the Broncos' favor.

Santa Clara now leads the all-time matchups 1-0-0 against UC Riverside.

The men will continue non-conference play when they travel to Cal State Fullerton on Fri., Sept. 19 to face the Titans at 7:30 p.m.

Game Notes: Steve Eneme scored his first collegiate goal … a total of three yellow card cautions were given … attendance totaled 340 in Riverside, Calif.
